If you’re planning to create a course but have no idea which platform would best suit your business, then you’re in the right place. Before I dive into the winners – let’s first discuss who these online course platforms are meant for, and what to look for when picking your ideal one.
With customizable templates and user-friendly interfaces, these platforms do not require you to be knowledgeable on web design and coding! They take care of the technical aspects of the setup such as web hosting, controlling user access rights, guaranteeing basic security, etc., so you can focus on your business without the extra steps.
It’s also important to note that each platform offers different features that you may want to consider while making your decision.
Do you want an already-present user base that can find your course directly through the platform?
What type of content will your course mainly consist of and will the platform support it?
Going over the features and benefits of each platform will help you decide on the best fit for you.
Kajabi offers a few options for course formats including text, video, audio based, and mixed formats, and will host any information-based courses. Their focus is providing you the full suite of tools that you may need to build your online course from start to finish, with various design templates you can customize in their visual editor, without needing to know web design and coding.
For their basic plan at $119 a month, you can create one website with three products and can host up to 1,000 active members/students.
On the downside of the platform, Kajabi doesn’t offer a marketplace of users to help get your course off the ground, so if you haven’t yet built an audience for your product or services, it may not be the best option.
Based on customer reviews, Thinkific is considered one of the best online course platforms, providing an all-in-one suite of tools to create and market your courses effectively in either text or video format.
Apart from the basic features that you’d expect – such as a course builder tool, student enrollment, online payments – you also get progress tracking, assessments, certificates, student communities, marketing automation, and more.
The pricing is potentially the best thing about Thinkific. They offer a free plan that allows you to set up one course and then sell access to it with no transaction fees. When you’re ready for the next step, you can upgrade to one of the paid plans, which run at $39, $79, and $399 a month.
One customer complaint is that live chat support isn’t available with the free plan, though if you’re confident in your abilities, that may not be an issue for you while using this platform, and it is available if you upgrade to a paid plan.
Teachable is an all-in-one solution to build, host, and sell online courses with an easy to use drag and drop course builder that would be perfect for first time course creators.
They also offer reporting modules, sales tools, student surveys, and chats for getting feedback.
Teachable has a very attractive pricing structure making it an appealing option. There’s a free plan with no strings attached, other than a $1 fee + 10% per transaction.
Another bonus is that all plans allow you to enroll unlimited students and host unlimited courses. The higher-tier plans run at $29, $99, and $249 a month.
On the flip side, the platform doesn’t provide a marketplace of users to get your course to an audience, so having an developed audience is a must with using Teachable.
Personally, I use Teachable to create my email marketing course and my clients use Kajabi. I recommend going with the online course platform that you can maintain long-term and that you find visually-appealing alongside the many features each platform has.
